DJ's Jonathan More and Matt Black, aka Coldcut are veterans of the electro scene, label heads of the respected Ninja Tune records and owners of their own mix show on Radio 1. The duo rose to acclaim in the mid-80's through production and remix work. Coldcut is certainly a force in the urban breakbeat styles of hip-hop, ambient dub, and jungle.
Coldcut has a new release in Sound Mirrors due 21 February 2006. Many are calling it the best stuff that Coldcut has done. One listen through and I am loving it. It's definitely one slick LP.
Mp3: Coldcut - "Man in a Garage"
Mp3: Coldcut - "True Skool"*
'Man in Garage' is mellowed out track thats might best be labeled as a folk performance with a baseline. It is Beta Band-esque and features a great performance by John Matthias.
'True Skool' features Roots Manuva rhymes over some old Bangles track. Heavy baseline and my personal favorite on the record. Your head will definately be bobbing up and down with this beat.
'Mr. Nichols' is also another great track of note featuring the legendary Saul Williams and his always great spoken poetry.
