Not sure what it is about some of the recent stuff I have been listening to out of Japan, but I seem to be drawn to pop/experimental minimalist types. In 2006 I fell in love with Chihei Hatakeyama Minima Moralia and now its Radicalfasion.
Pitchfork called Radicalfashion's music "as lucid and fragile as a memory on the verge of recollection, the track coils telegraphic urgency into a serene, wintry nocturne." I am not totally sure what a wintry nocturne is supposed to sound like or the fragility of a memory, but I am sure that Radicalfashion's music is pleasant and relaxing to listen to and that at times is good enough for me.
Their debut record, Odori comes out tomorrow on Hefty Records. Here is an mp3 for good measure.
Mp3: Radicalfashion - "Shousetsu" (more samples here)
While "Shousetsu" is a good song I prefer thier myspace featured track "Surrey." I guess at some level both Radicalfashion and Chihei Hatakeyama appeal to the subconscious, something to be enjoyed while not having to fully engage...for whats that's worth.

"wintry nocturne" is code for "someone got a thesaurus for Christmas".
