"You can bomb the world to pieces, but you can't bomb it into peace."
Michael Franti and Spearhead have a new album coming out July 25th. If you don't know who Michael Franti and/or Spearhead is I recommend you get yourself the record Stay Human or Franti's work with The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy (Franti, Rono Tse, and jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter).
Spearhead's music blends hip-hop with a variety of other styles including funk, reggae, folk, and rock the result is fantastic. Many of the tracks are political or other progressive social issues. Its possible that Franti is be the most socially concious musican out there. He is an ethical vegan and a huge anti-war activist.
In the summer of 2004 Franti travelled to Iraq, Palestine, and Israel. He brought video cameras and a guitar, with the intent of exploring the human cost of war. The result was inspired the new album along with a documentary about the experience entitled I know I am not alone.
Check out the new single off the upcoming Spearhead album recorded in Kingston, Jamaica and Franti's hometown of San Francisco, California its out July 25th.
