Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the President of Iran has stated that he does not believe the Holocaust occured. Specifically in reference to the Holocaust, he stated that "they have invented a myth that Jews were massacred" (CNN 2006).

Given this statement should Ahmadinejad be allowed to travel to Germany and watch the World Cup?

Ahmadinejad uses these anti-Israel remarks in order to bolster support from his country. He didn't have much support before "W" started rattling his saber in the middle east. Before the invasion of Iraq, Iran (the youth in particular) was moving closer and closer to western ideals. How about, rather than griping about the stupid things fundimentalist idealogs say to motivate their people, we avoid empowering them in the first place. It's like Bush and his ban on gay marriage. Does that mean we shouldn't let Bush ever go to Massachusetts again?

In my opinion, no. Ahmadinejad is a very unpleasant character, given for too much respect & leeway by the anti-war movement in the UK, simply because he is 'anti-imperialist'.

Anon. I agree fully. Not sure if you read this when I posted it:
Politics of War and Fear

I am sure he is going to be riding the latest killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Of course the war will never be over because they must keep us in fear and keep us consuming. So the war will resume and on the ground I am sure there is somebody ready to take Zarqawi's place.

Honestly, from a purely sports perspective, I see no reason why the statements of Ahmadinejad should prevent the National team from participating in this world event. There are a million-and-one examples and bits of evidence in history [which I'd be more than happy to share] where things like soccer/football and the olympics have served to keep peace a little longer [of course the Munich tragedy in the 70s is a major outlier on that curve], and to shutout their athletes as a result of their leader I feel would just fuel the fires further, even though I do agree that the guy is a bit of a tosser.

Let's not treat all Iranians with the same disdain we have for a select few whose ideas we all do not share. Talking about the Holocaust the way he did is absolutely ridiculous?

Speaking of ridiculous, I'd be curious to hear yr thoughts on Ann Coulter's latest whorish publicity-seeking escapades, and being way outspoken on 9/11 coincidentally around the time of her latest book release. Motherfucker that she is.

Whoops. Once again, I misread things and comment on them misguidedly. Sorry. I think he should stay at home, having rattled the world's collective cage one time too many lately, oh, but the Ann Coulter shit still holds true.

Yeah. Most of what I said though doesn't make sense in context with the question. My mistake.

Let them play. Although it is a war, peace is found on the soccer pitch.

JT. Ann Coulter is a miserable miserable person. She has no redeemable qualities and she is filled with such hate and says such awful and intolerant things that she is sincerely a waste of space. I don't say that lightly but if a person has nothing nice to say and doesn't look to better the people and the country they live in they are truly a drain on society.

The sad part of this story is that Coulter's hate and outrageous talk has gotten her rich. She just bought a 1.9 million dollar house in Florida. Its a shame that ANYONE would support her by buying her books or listen to her hateful rhetoric.

There are so many capable and intelligent people and specifically women that never get a chance to speak or publish and this hateful hateful person get all sorts of opportunities. It is just really tragic.

Agree with you 100% Laws. I was speaking solely of Ahmadinejad not the National team.
