New reggae from Stones Throw.

Stones Throw records recently introduced The Lions. A ragamuffin bunch of LA's best reggae musicians. Various members of the group have worked with ska band Hepcat, actors from movies which include roles in the films Swingers and High Fidelity.

Other band members are operators of the i&i Sound System, a customized base blasting ice cream van featured on the cover of both Saul Williams’ self-titled album and an issue of XLR8R Magazine. You can also mix in a guitarist from the excellent group Breakestra along with musicians who have played with the likes of De La Soul, Barrington Levy, Beck, Raphael Saadiq, Big Daddy Kane and Black Eyed Peas.

Certainly a long list of collaborations and perhaps a longer list of musicians! While I doubt that the Lions and their dusty reggae sound are going to make it big in these days of overproduce music garbage I am just happy there are others out there loving this style of music like I do. Looking forward to their upcoming full length release.
