Alright been slacking a bit this last week but am glad that M and E have picked up that slack. Was on vacation with the family. Was a great trip and good to be back. Have some good stuff sitting on the hard drive that I am looking forward to sharing. For now though a classic...

It's Memorial Day weekend here in the states, so I've cooked up a disco-themed Music for your Weekend selection for your party enjoyment. First up is this undeniably smooth edit of George Benson's "Give Me The Night" by Disco Tech. And then we've got this so very...fresh Kool & The Gang edit from Gabriel Alexander. And finally, Vancouver, BC local Laberge posted this "Million Dollar Party", and it's exactly the kind of track I would play at just such a festivity.

A couple of these tracks have free downloads, so be sure to click through and grab 'em while you can. Have a great weekend!

Following up on last week's post about Peter & The Magician's new "Twist" single, here's a fantastic minimix they cooked up to promote the full EP. Those tracks include "Twist", "La Fiorentina" and "Love in Rimini". The EP is out on Kitsuné June 20th. Definitely worth checking out!

Just to add to my attraction to 90s R&B sampling in a modern electronic way, here comes Lando Kal's "Further". He flipped SWV's "You're The One" into a funky garage tune.

One of my absolute favorite acts of last year, Reset!, just casually dropped a preview of their new "Love & Revolution" EP. These guys harness the power of every squelch, bleep, bloop, and squeal imaginable and layer it over fist-pumpin' Italian "turbofunk". Everything they do is right up my alley, but this Calypsoul track is especially good. You can pick up this EP when it releases June 6th on Cheap Thrills. I'm going to be all over this.

Check out this new Ghosts of Venice remix of Bit Funk's "She's Got Two Hearts"! Both artists are longtime favorites here at Analog Giant. Word on this track is you can find the full release (including a Treasure Fingers remix!) on June 29th. I'm still mad I missed Bit Funk last time he was in Seattle. Grr.

In the mood for some slow jams? This superb set by Acos CoolKAs, aka Konstantin Atomas and Vasiliy Basalaev, was recorded for the Leningradskiy Disco Klub podcast. I could bliss out to this all day.

What's not to love about the sound of this Geisha Twins remix of Ellie Goulding's "Lights"? This has to be one of my favorite tracks from Michael and Zac, the much vaunted Geisha Twins--a production duo that, well, seriously produces. Free download from the Soundcloud link, too!

It seems like both Justin Faust and The Phantom's Revenge are everywhere this week--and this, my friends, is a very good thing. What better track to illustrate this point than a brand new Justin Faust remix of a track by The Phantom's Revenge?! Suddenly, Friday gets that much better.

Air France II is brought to you by the production duos of Art Nouveau (France) and LOL Boys (LA/Montreal). After 2 minutes in, the piano riff starts, and what sounds like a 90s R&B vocal sample, added with the punchy drums and hand claps makes for a unexpected harmonious combination.

I just saw the video of my favorite track off of Toro Y Moi's "Underneath the Pine" album, the chill boogie-tinged "New Beat". His tour hits North America in the Fall, and comes to the Northwest the end of September (special appearance at Seattle's Bumbershoot), so make sure you check him out!

Quick festival announcement for all my fellow midwesterners. A hip hop extravaganza of sorts is coming to Shakopee, Minnesota. I have no idea where Shankopee is but I am sure everyone is familiar with how to use Google Maps.

Soundset will be there May 29th and features Big Boi, De La Soul, Macklemore (pictured), Ryan Lewis, Blueprint, Looptroop Rockers, Atmosphere and a bunch more. It is one of the only all hip hop festivals around. Check it out.

Super funky track from Peter & The Magician, which is, according to the consistently excellent Too Many Sebastians, a collaboration between The Magician and "some chap called Yuksek." Is it just me, or is there a definite Funky Town vibe from this one? Anyway, the track is part of the Kitsuné Maison Compilation 11. Another thing that is both excellent and consistent.

Happy Friday. A big thank you to E and Melenie who have been keeping AG fresh for the week. So much good music. It is hard to keep up. First off a great track off the NW label SubPop from the fantastic Washed Out. Subpop has even made the track available free for download. Check it out. The next track is from an AG favorite Russ Chimes. His remix of Broke One's track "Go Go Go" is a great weekend track that should not be missed. The last track is a oldie but a goodie...Alex Metric's epic remix of Phoenix's "Lisztomania." Have a great weekend everyone. Peace always.

Californnnnnnia! Brand new music from the indomitable Go Go Bizkitt, and a helluva way to use this sample. Word from the Bizkitt is he's hitting U.S. shores in August. No word if he'll be hitting the city of Compton, but he better make his way up to Seattle!

We're excited to announce that you can find us on the brand new Hype Machine Radio iPhone app! With this app, you can turn Analog Giant (and other blogs you like) into a mobile radio station. You can favorite songs and even hit a button to check out the blog post that corresponds with the song you're listening to. While you're listening, you can also skip a limited number of songs that you're not into--sort of like Pandora. The app costs $2.99 in the App Store, and no, we don't get a cut of sales--we just think the app is a really cool idea.

And you're familiar with The Hype Machine website, right? If not, you absolutely have to go check it out--it's basically a musical stream of consciousness from the best music blogs on the internet. One of the best places to find new music. So anyway, now you can listen to Analog Giant just about anywhere.

Just how good is this remix from The Phantom's Revenge? Quite. Brand new work from the quirky and jaw-droppingly talented producer, this time remixing Taxi Driver from Mothers of Charleston. This is the kind of song that can make you lose control of your limbs.

You may have heard of Quadron, but do you know who is behind those melodic electro-soulful productions? Robin Hannibal is a very talented producer who aside from Quadron, is also a part of Boom Clap Bachelors (who just released a new EP).

In this track sung by Szjerdene, Hannibal creates a sound that mixes retro sounds of horns and synths but keeps it modern.
Szjerdene - Lead The Way by Plug Research

Other examples of his work that I enjoy are from the Red Bull Music Academy - Various Assets - Not For Sale - London 2010 compilation, where he is influenced by deep house to chillwave to boogie to the Hudson Mohawke assisted bass heavy R&B:

Robin Hannibal and Jullian Gomes - "I Need Your Love"

B. Bravo and Robin Hannibal - "What's It Gonna Be"

Master Mp6 60 and Robin Hannibal - "Rocking All Night"

This young producer from Ohio, StewRat released a new soul electronic beat tape suitable for Spring comprised of his chopped up samples, reminiscent of Dilla. The beat on the track "Butt" slaps (no pun intended)!

Monsieur Adi has been responsible for more than a few utterly brilliant songs and remixes over the last year, all dusted with magic. I get some Daft Punk and Justice vibes, for sure, but he's got his own sound. I'm liking this new uplifting electro/house type thang, "Last Stand", with vocals by Gary Go. You should also skip on over to "Chariot" for a completely different style. I'm looking forward to hearing what's next from Monsieur Adi.

Let's kick this week off right with a little disco. Or at least some tracks in the disco spirit, right? As a follow-up to an earlier post about Mix Chopin's new EP, the man dropped his magnificent new "When I'm With You" single on Soundcloud. Before was just a teaser--this is the full meal deal, and man is it tasty. I've got a feeling I'll be playing this one all summer. Next up is a boot-shakin' remix of Neighbour & Think Tanks's "Lando" from Tal M Klein, released last month on Home Breakin Records. Rounding out today's set is a Rolling Stones remix from London-based producer Debonair. That's a feel good track right there.
