Daft Punk has come to epitomise electronic music and its ability to recreate itself while many other musical genres are left in the dust.

Show Moment: A friend and I saw Daft Punk in LA. When the LEDs came on around the entire arena, all I could say was, "OH SHIT, OH SHIT...." I was completely amazed. Seeing the entire floor lit up like that, my mind was blown.

Why do I deserve the poster? Because my dorm room wall is baren without it, and because I care about the instruments inside it (don't they look amazing?)

Daft punk is so great because they finally figured out alchemy. They found a way to take samples of songs that are mostly boring, and make them complete jams. Also, the vocoder breakdown in Harder Better Faster Stronger is more likely to make people break into spontaneous freak-out dance than anything else, ever.

My concert moment was this summer at lollapalooza. I was with a bunch of my friends, and super tired from some other show, so I was sitting on the lawn before they started, then I decided, "fuck it", I'm getting close. Me and one other kid went down just as they started and managed to get a really good view. As soon as the lights started going, I forgot I was tired, and pissed at the crowd, and that I was mostly pissed at my friends for not wanting to freak out with me, and just let my face get rocked for 2 hours.

I deserve the poster because I will treasure it like nothing else I own, and treat it like a member of my family.

Chris said... @ 12/04/2007 08:39:00 AM

It's the way they make the crowd feel. I saw them back in 96 (I think) and it was a tiny club and they were relatively unknown and I saw them last year in Miami for their latest show and each time the crowd was in a trance dancing to their music in euphoria.

I would like the poster, to continue my Daft Punk collection that started with my Kubrick Daft Funk figures.

Pick me! Pick me!

I am from Iceland. I come from a poor background and therefore I have never been to a Daft Punk concert. Why do I deserve this poster? I don't know if I deserve it, all I know is, Daft Punk is my favorite band .. and the poster would go well in my Harry Potter cupboard-ish room.

Oh man, I don't know how to convince anyone that I deserve something more than someone else but here's a try at explaining why I want this poster.

Lollapallooza was one of the only chances I had to make it to see Daft Punk this summer. If there was one "band" I'd like to see before I die it would probably be them. My best friend and his wife invited my wife and I to go to the Chicago show with them. We had to think about it (my wife doesn't really enjoy the same music as I) seeing as it was expensive and I'm working part time now.

Anyway, while we were trying to decide my parents called to tell me they sold their house and they would like us to help them move on the day of the show. Devastated, but knowing the order of importance, we helped them move instead of going to the show.

When Alive 07 came out I had to get it. It tore me up to hear the mixes and the crowd cheering to around the world over harder, better, faster, stronger. I watched youtube bootlegged concert videos and just wished I had a second chance. The poster would I'm sure be cool. Maybe you could choose me eh?

Daft Punk makes me manically happy. I be in my car, having a normal day, then Daft Punk comes on KEXP or C89.5 and I chair dance and swerve and get extremely giddy. That's it!

i printed the posters out on regular printer paper and taped them up on my wall, but i'd love to have a poster instead! robot rock forever!

Everything is great about Daft Punk, for serial.

I deserve it cause I stay on that Analog Giant... Also because I will treat it with care and be mad grateful.

I've yet to see Daft live, living in Alaska has put somewhat of a hamper on that!

Daft Punk is great because they make music that makes even the most hardcore of wallflowers get up and dance like crazy.

I saw them in Coney Island this summer, and I thought I was hallucinating throughout their whole set. It took a while to realize that I was jumping and dancing and screaming along to the music, like everyone packed in around me. Definitely was one of the best concert experiences I had!
I -- well, my boyfriend deserves the poster because he paid for my ticket when we went to see them! :) It will be a Christmas gift. Shh.

this is one of a number of writings i done on the topic of daft punk and their epic-ness.

so sure, now everyone in the world just loves Daft Punk right now. 2 years ago, however, with the release of 2005's Human After All, everyone was a hater. just look at what pitchfork had to say in their record review:

"Turns out Daft Punk are (mostly) human after all, because from a compositional standpoint, this sounds like it was made in about 19 days. Even the good stuff sounds painfully extemporaneous, like early sketches of tracks that deserve to be much better. Take the title cut-- a slick, vocoder-driven track that, despite being one of the better offerings on the record, has such a clinical build that it registers as patterned and completely starved of joy. It's Daft Punk going through the motions and, for the first time in their career, sounding like cynics."

very harsh. but then again, pitchfork is really nothing more than a bunch of aging hipsters who are on the brink of not really knowing whats cool anymore, and are desperately trying to hang on to their indie stardom. (oh snap)

According to the Teenager Theory (a dynamic model for analyzing the development of Daft Punk) Human After All was a sort of planned third stage in Daft Punk's career. Stage 1 begins with 1997's Homework, a tremendous album, considered to be one of the greatest electronica albums ever made. Homework is more or less a study in the elements of house music. Most of the tracks are straight up re-edits of late-70s/early-80s disco hits, plus reverb and a 4/4 beat. the track "Teachers," which features a robot listing the godfathers of House music (DJ Pierre, DJ Sneak, etc.) over a 4/4 beat and reverb drenched disco vocal is a testament to this hypothesis. Daft Punk did their homework and made the best house album ever.

4 years go by, Daft Punk become robots, and 2001's Discovery is released. now when Discovery was released, few remember but people (pitchfork) actually hated pretty hard on that album. Says pitchfork's Ryan Schreiber:

"It's practically brainwashing, isn't it? Daft Punk seem to be operating under the premise that if you hear something enough times, you'll start to believe it. But after more than 15 listens to Discovery's first single and opening track, "One More Time," vocodered vocalist Romanthony doesn't have me "feeling the need," much less not waiting, celebrating, and dancing so free. This could just be me, of course. Maybe I just haven't taken enough ecstasy and horse tranquilizers to appreciate the tinny, sampled brass ensemble, the too-sincere "chill out" midsection, or the fat drum machine beats that throb in time with my headache."

or you were too much of a nerd in high school/college to notice the revolution in music that was occurring a couple hours away from you (Chicago) in the 80s, or you didn't have any friends to invite you to take those drugs and go dancing, or you really didn't (and don't) know anything about music, but rather are just another washed up college radio GM who is painfully cynical, wears unflattering earth-tones, and sits around pretending to enjoy (Smog) albums. but anyway, Discovery was just that, a discovery (of epic proportions). it was basically the same house format used in Homework, infused with mind-numbing pop-happiness that combined elements of late 70s disco, euro-synth pop, and Japanese animation; elements which defined pop-culture in France during Guy and Thomas's childhood.

now 2005's Human After All, was a massive departure from the "French Touch" we were dancing to on Discovery. the songs were more bare, there were fewer layers, and more importantly alot of the pop, artificial synth effects that defined songs like "One More Time" and "Digital Love" were missing. instead you got songs like "Human After All" and "Robot Rock" with more stripped down, natural sounding guitar and drum samples. in short, the album was less disco, and more metal filtered through disco. and sure, those tracks weren't nearly as catchy as "Around the World" and "Digital Love," but they weren't supposed be. these songs were merely templates for what Daft Punk was planning to do in the future (as demonstrated by their mind blowing live sets). and isn't the format of Human After All the exact same thing the Ed Banger Crew are doing right now? and isn't Busy P the head of Ed Banger Records and the manager of Daft Punk?

ive deserve this poster because ive obsessed about daft punk and their music to come up with stuff like the ridiculous shit i wrote above.

Daft Punk simply makes superb electronic music that goes beyond people that listen to simply that, from hip hop, my main staple of music, to other genres. On top of their top notch produced music, they produce mesmerizing visual effects from their pyramid to movies to their costumes.

I would use the poster to better enjoy the little living room I live in as I go to school here in LA. Although left with no privacy, the poster, next to my currently only poster: Nikki McClure - Voice, would just my "room" worth looking at.

I saw Daft Punk at the Eurockeenes festival in France in the early summer of 2006. Experiencing that set at 2:30 am while plastered on pastis with some locals we became friends with was without question the best concert experience I've had.

I guess since everyone is justifying their noble usage of the poster... i'd hang it on my wall at the naval academy, in defiance of probably a couple room-standard regulations... rock on, daft punk

Ever since the videos from Interstella 5555 were aired on Toonami's Midnight Run [when I knew nothing about music] I haven't been able to satiate my hunger for French Robotronica.

I've never been to a live concert, but when Electroma debuted in Houston, I ended up staying at the theater until 5 the next morning watching all of Electroma, then the live video from Cochella, followed by Interstella 5555 in it's entirety. I almost tried to play Homework on the way back, just so I could get my Da Funk and Phoenix fix, but my friend wasn't up for it.

I can't say anyone deserves the poster more than the next, but I'd totally be up for clearing an entire wall of everything else, repaint it with the Daft Punk logo from Discovery's cover art or large stencils of Bangalter and Guy-Manuel, to hang this poster right in the center.

Daft Punk is so great simply because they never claim to be so great. They make the music they want, and people love it (Discovery) or hate it (Human After All). They did not offer any apologies for what some claim was a major let down after Discovery. They wear LED helmets and don't seem to care too much what people have to say about their music.

I don't have a show moment, I never got to see them live. But I have watched all the show clips, and bootleg recordings. I even received several cell phone calls from friends that saw them live. It hurts knowing that I missed it.

Why I deserve the poster? I don't know, I probably don't deserve it. But it would look a lot better than the little Daft Punk print I have hanging up right now.

Take heed and bare witness to the truths that lie herein, for they are not only factual increments of data taken from my insignificant life but strands of unforgettable memories that have been engraved into my brain, my heart, and my soul.

August 17th 2007: Sitting on my computer, time is flying faster than ever. My friend calls me. He, being one of Daft Punks huge fans, informs me he has eight tickets to see Daft Punk in the L.A sports arena. I'm in awe, speechless to the fact he invited me. As i mutter out the three words as though the same sex just asked me to marry them, I said, "Yes, i do!"

I am unknowing that a new era in my life was about to be formed. Four days slowly continue on. At that point i did not know what to expect. I did listen to their music and loved it, but seeing them live did not strike me at the time.

August 21st 2007: The glow of the sun peers through my windows. Both my eyes open. An oceanic breeze wafts into my lungs, it will be the start of a new beginning. At 10:30 sharp 3 bodies jump into a 1989 Mazda 323. The only reliable element are the new tires put on the day before. The cars history of overheating and abuse don't even hit me until the trip was over.

We arrive at about 3 p.m. The line only partly formed. Time sped through as 4 hours go by until we get to actually walk in. Our seats remain dead center of the stage but not on the dance floor. The first bands play, stadium still empty, the dance floor only half full. As the clock struck 10p.m the unforgettable sounds of Close Encounters of the Third Kind music,.

The crowd goes wild. The dance floor becomes filled to the brink. Curtains open. They begin. No words can describe the natural ecstasy as endorphins flow through my body. I never felt such a feeling in my life. Bodies dancing everywhere, everyone becomes friends.

Two hours of this go by. At the end snapshots go through my mind. Snapshots of people crying at a 1980's Micheal Jackson concert. That's how i feel, I'm the one crying(not literally =D).

To me it was the second coming of Jesus Christ.

I felt as though i could die, my life's mission accomplished. With the ringing in my ears i did not hear my friends telling me we had to go. With me being the one driving, again, I strap up for another 4 hours. -Current time 1 a.m.- My friends pass out from the intense show. My mind is still racing, ears still ringing of what i had just witnessed. I switch on X.M radio, the only stealable thing in the car. I switch it to X.M 80. Daft Punk is playing once more,Around The World. A smile is instantly put on my face.

We get home around 4.am. No traffic, nor cops, to stop us. We made good time. With work at 9 in the morning i instantly pass out on my bed, fully clothed. Waking up four hours later it felt like a dream, too good to be true. I spot the $5 large daft punk sticker on the ground, another smile of self gratification that it was indeed true.

3 months later after having been baptized in the glorious music that is Daft, another opportunity arises. A chance to go to Vegoose to witness the third coming of Christ,

I am instantly willing to put down all my money to see another show, and drive 7 hours to Vegas.

In the end these two events lay engraved in my mind as the best concerts and days of my life that i had the pleasure of living. Although my bank account wasn't what it used to be before Vegas and the $175 tickets alone, In my mind i new what i was in for. It was well worth every penny, possibly my life. If my life was taken i wouldn't have the pleasure of writing this rambling on story.

I write this experience not necessarily to achieve victory in this contest and receive a priceless poster to which has a profound influence of two of the best days of my life, but to also encourage people to go see Daft Punk if they ever return to the states.

If i do get chosen, please lie the poster on my coffin as the military does the U.S flag of a fallen comrade. I am a Daft Punk comrade. I would die of the excitement of winning something so cherished.

wow, people wrote so much.

daft punk pretty much makes my day, everyday and I think I deserve the poster because I'm a dancing machine when Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger or Around the World comes on.
