I have kinda given up on the whole indie music scene. The level of snobery and people "in the know" that I have talked to have just kinda turned me off to it. In all my conversations its become more of a pissing contest than a discussion of why you enjoy getting down to the beat.
ALSO bit of an apology for slacking and not posting much...had a bit of a bug thought it was food poisoning but it didn't go away after a couple days so it was probably something else. ANYWAYS all is better so lets talk about what you came here for...
Bloc Party's Weekend in the City is due out February. Their track "The Prayer" was recently featured on one of my favorite blogs here. Bloc Party along with TVOTR are some of the few indie bands I continue to stomach. For the samples I have heard off the new record its sure to be a great one. One of my favorite tracks is "I Still Remember."

I feel you on the whole "indie" scene. Everyone wants to be some kind of condescending tastemaker (*cough* Pitchfork! *cough*), and I can't remember the last time I was genuinely excited over an "indie" band.

Sorry, heard the whole album and it's a stinker. Polished all the good bits right off and left all the weaknesses exposed. Some of those lyrics made me just cringe.

so, as indie s c e n e is concerned, i don t really mind. cool bands as within any other scene. still, i find it sometimes funny for how serious some seem to be on these matters. so, a little more unbiased view on things wouldn t make no harm, surely. that said, indie lifestyle is still the one which seems the most fun for me.
dan love to see particulary where you feel i am acting like a snob? i am a bit confused. i simply stated that the bands i am really feeling is bloc party tvotr and then maybe lcd soundsystem (do they count as indie?). aside from that my "thesis" seems pretty snob free to me.
ohh and jars ki i think you have a good point. i am not writing off the entire scene. there is snobs really in every genre and there is definately somebody i can point to in ever style of music that i like. i think you point about not taking things to seriously on matters is a great one.

Sorry to hear that Ill still pick it up but that just dampered my excitement a bit.
got an advance release of the album...not as solid as silent alarm, which i thought each track had its own special something. this album definitely went a different direction as the band said it would. a bit less intensity from start to finish, it tapers off a bit. but worth buying, for sure. as for the indie scene debate, reading the trades is somthing to be done only for fun. de gustibus non est disputandum.
I just love the term 'indie' nowadays. Seems that people don't really understand it means independant. I've seen people refer to bands like Coldplay as indie. Hahaha. And band's like Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand are sometimes called art-rock. Hilarious stuff.
indie definately means independent but it has evolved from that term don't you think into a genre discription good or bad. yeah art-rock not sure what the def of that is. anything with an easel on stage?

it gets thrown around a lot in the UK... it's basically stuff like bloc, with a kind of angular sound kids who meet at art school love to make with their guitars... they like to think they're more intelligent than you're average indie band member.
