As much as I wanted to dedicate the Tuesday dig to the new Barenaked Ladies record or the always dreamy John Mayer and his new release I decided to focus on Playgroup. Playgroup is a collective masterminded by Trevor Jackson, a graphic designer (sleeves by Eric B. & Rakim, Stereo MCs, and the Jungle Brothers), producer, and remixer.

Mr. Jackson also runs his own Output label. Which AMG calls "a melting pot of disco, funk, hip-hop, dub, new wave, and electronica." After setting up his independant hip hop label Bite It! Recordings in 1991, he ventured into record production and remixing, using the Underdog name. In 1996 he formed a new label Output Recordings featuring Four Tet, LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture, as well as his own acclaimed Playgroup project.

Mp3: Chromeo - "You're So Gangsta" (Playgroup_Remix)
Mp3: Franz Ferdinand - "This fffire" (Playgroup Remix)
Mp3: The Rapture - "House of Jealous Lovers" (Playgroup Remix)
Mp3: Soft Cell - "Monoculture" (Playgroup Remix)

Buy Playgroup Albums: His 2002 released DJ KICKS album can be purchased here and many of his latest remixes are on his 2005 Reproduction album, which can be purchased here.

To whom it may concern

I am writing to inform you that due to circumstances beyond my control, Output recordings ceased trading today.

It has been a rough ride for the past 2-3 years and as hard as i've tried to keep everything running,
i am now forced to close the label. Ironically it is our tenth year and we were very close to releasing our 100th release,
so i should of been celebrating, but instead i am being forced to write this mail which leaves me devastated

I have tried everything i possibly could to survive, but today after a strong reality check have decided that i simply
cannot continue running the label anymore.

I apologize profusely to anyone who is owed any money, as i have tried to trade over the past year to bring in income
solely to pay off any debt's. I can assure i have never over the past 10 years drawn any type of wage, funds or even expenses
from the label, and have run output solely for the love of the music and artists that i feel so lucky to of worked with.

I may have run this business somewhat naively, nobody taught me how i should do it, i just started with a dream and before i knew it
things started taking off and there simply wasn't the time to put an infrastructure in place that would let things run smoother,
(and also perhaps help avoid the position i am in today). I had the misfortune of working with people who were inexperienced early on
and this ultimately led us into situations which eventually caused chaos and the total inability to operate in a professional and organized way

I appreciate the continued understanding of the majority of you whom i have the pleasure of working with over many years, and
deeply regret having to be in this position. I honestly believed that i would be able to bring money in over a period of time to pay
everyone who has been owed anything, and having to let go of my label manager and cut all expenses to a bare minimum seemed
to of helped stabilize things, but now due to new situations that i am finding impossible to deal with, i have had to make this decision

The compnay has no assets, so i regret to inform you that the chances of you receiving any money are minimal,
and although Output is a limited company i am still personally liable for a very large bank overdraft which will leave me severely in debt

I regret having put any of you in this unfortunate position, and hope to be able to make it up to you sometime in the future

Yours sincerely

Trevor
