While Lupe Fiasco is snatching up all the hype (saw him on MTV...sigh) and all the credit as being THE up and coming Chicago emcee there is another talented dude lying in the background. Sure Lupe's sound is fresh and his track "Kick Push" is the hit of the summer don't over look this Rhymefest kid, he's no slouch.

Maybe some of you where able to check him out on his record, A Star is Born Vol. 1, released in 2005 (features a duo on "Build Me Up Buttercup" with the late O.D.B along with another track featuring a Strokes beat). If you didn't catch his first record don't miss Blue Collar as it has some solid hip hop tracks. One of my favorite hip hop tracks of the year has to be "Dynomite". While his team up on the track "Brand New" with Kanye is garnering the most attention and is the first single, Rhymefest's rhyming and DJ Just Blaze's work on the wheels of steel stand out on the "Dynomite" track.

Mp3: Rhymefest - "Dynomite (Going Postal)"
Mp3: Rhymefest - "All I do"

Buy it! Get Rhymefest's record Blue Collar here or here its only 9.99 for godsake.

is lupe a more marketable product? because that is what most of popular music "performers" are.(i wont use the word artist) they are simply a product. somthing with a face that a corporation wants to push. buy a song writer, buy a producer, buy a marketing director, buy a stylist. done. i saw lupe last night here in seattle. the show was ok. we can blame our wack seattle crowd for this one for not coming ready to party. as usual. but rhymfest has flows. the man brings it. and seems to be passionate about it. an actual artist in my opinion. i cant take much from lupe. he is tight. but i agree. the wrong person is being pushed.

lupe has ridden the clean cut skateboard trick on to the mainstage. its what the mainstream likes. i would love to back rhymefest particularly because he destroys in freestyle battles and co-wrote jesus walks, but cant we admit that this cd is so-so? tepid kanye production and the stroke's sampled beat was hot when mark ronson used it on his own mixtape back in like 2004. i do like "more" and the ODB joint is perfect as perfect can be.

Do not get it twisted Rhymefest is a talented dude, but he does not seem to have a focus. Where Kanye is now more than anything bringing the realness along with the fake while being a political figure head. Lupe is a skateboarder (he was simply paying homage, get his mixtapes they are crucial), and has lyrics that are above what mainstream is used to and is being called the next Nas-Z (Nas and JayZ). To conclude, I do not see what angle Rhymefest is coming in at, he is just a talented freestylist but I do not understand what he is trying to bring to the came. It has been seen you can be the most talented freestylist, but if you can't make hits or rather a solid album, you WON'T sell, just look at freestyle king from 106 n Park, Jin. Dude is madd talented, but can't get a hold on the whole making a good album.

Great post. I agree with you. I still think Kanye is the whole package I just think some people are missing out on Rhymefest whos blue collar album is a good one. Not the best ever but a great contribution in 2006.
