First let me tell you I enjoy a good movie and like going to the movies, but its been more difficult than ever to get me to go this year....why? Because Hollywood blows at making movies. Outside of Inside Man and Dave Chappelle's Block Party the year has been a bust. Sure I have gone...watched Superman Returns, it was weak, avoided XMen 3 because I knew Rattner would screw it up (and he did) liked the first Pirates of the Caribbean (despite it being based a rodent-land themepark ride) but knew the 2nd and the 3rd and the 4th are just going to be barebones plot and all special effects so they can draw in the American public that cares about nothing than eye candy and not using their brains (CW not included).

While Ali was a missed opportunity I did like Collarteral, The Insider and Heat, and am looking forward to Mann bringing some type of watchable Summer Blockbuster to the circuit. While I can't stand Colin Farrell I'm in desperate need of a watchable Summer Blockbuster.

Mann usually brings a great visual style to his films and its will be interesting to see what he's going to do with the 80's TV series. It should also be mentioned that Scanner Darkly and The Departed are promising releases as well. Given the weak showing thus far Scorsese might be able to get his Oscar for his movie it certainly has an All-Star cast: Nicholson, Damon, Sheen, DiCaprio and Walhberg. Liked Internal Affairs the movie its based on so there is promise.

If you have some recommendations of some movies to catch post them in the comments. I'm intersted in checking out some Indie films just haven't been interested in what they have been showing in the location theater.

Update: So Miami Vice started strong but let me tell you its sinking quickly for its opening tomorrow. Last time I checked it was coming in at 56% at RT. Thats not very good. Thats not worth AG's 9 dollars to see. "Beautifully shot but underdeveloped" just doesn't get my hopes up.

Nice. I have seen some good DVDs. I heard Little Miss Sunshine was a good film. I'll be sure to check out Blackballed. The Decent is supposed to be good? Haven't read reviews about it its been a while since a good horror movie was released.

The Descent -- it's more entertaining than most horror flicks...

Check out Capote. And MI:3 was pretty decent. Why I mention MI:3 along with Capote is Philip Seymour Hoffman. Man, what a great actor. First I saw him as intense bad guy in Mi:3, then I saw him as this homosexual writer with this special voice in Capote.

What a rush. You should check out both.

Miami Vice is probaly going to be good. Mann really really knows his stuff.

Heat is one of my favourite movies, and I really liked Collateral.

Its going to be nice. Im specially looking forward to watch what style he brings to the table this time.

I agree the summer has been weak though. I watched X3. :( Wasted 12$, wasted 1 and 30 minutes something. And cursed Ratner all the way home.

Pirates 2 was fun, but CGI-whoring and cheese here and there. Still, fun.

"special voice"
That's going to keep me laughing all night!

Little Miss Sunshine looks to be great. It's the duo that did the "Pink Moon" VW commercials that allowed the Nick Drake estate to cash in. Looks like they are keeping the VW theme alive.

Haha, yeah. Best from the top of my head. Im going to sleep now, so you keep it down there.

Didn't like M3. Thought Hoffman was good but didn't like the rest of the film. Capote is definately a classic, very good flick.

I'll be sure to see Miami Vice this weekend. I will cross my fingers that they show Little Miss Sunshine at the indie theater here in Montpelier.

You guys only gettin The Decent now? I highly recommend it and the directors (Neil Marshall) debut feature 'Dog Soilders'. Have to agree with ya...I'm pinning my summer blockbuster hopes on Miami Vice!

I thoroughly enjoyed Miami Vice also ... Mr. Gore, however, has just made the best movie of the summer with an Inconvenient Truth .. it's just horrifying, but Mr. Gore is surprisingly funny and charming throughout ... Thank You For Smoking was also great
