Jack Abramoff (once) one of the most influencial Republican and conservative lobbyists in Washington has agreed to plead guilty in a corruption probe. The official charge is guilty on three felony counts of conspiracy, fraud, and tax evasion. Abramoff collected tens of millions of dollars in fees from Indian tribes and directed the tribes to make contributions to dozens of his lawmaker friends' and their campaigns. He also used the money to pay for expensive trips, drinks, dinner and sports tickets for his mainly Republican buddies.
The guilty plea implicates several top Republican lawmakers including former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. DeLay according to the Washington Post called Abramoff "one of my closest and dearest friends." The long-expected plea will give prosecutors increased firepower as they seek to link the activities of DeLay and Republican Rep. Bob Ney of Ohio, and other top Republican lawmakers to favors paid for by Abramoff's lobbying clients.
Justice! it feels so damn good when these slick and shady hacks get caught. Jackie boy represented the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands for god sake. He and his group of thugs raised millions of dollars. So far the investigation has lasted more than two years and prosecutors have now developed a list of at least a dozen lawmakers, congressional aides and lobbyists whose work appears "suspect" and are now at the core of the corruption case.
What a bunch of punk-ass-chumps, I hope they get what they deserve and that my friends is some good old fashioned jail time. With Abramoff willing to sell-out his "friends" along with others ready to backstab, I promise you that the list of inditees is sure to grow. So much for thinking you're above the law suckas!
