A friend of mine recommended I check out a group called Goldfrapp the other day. So I did and really enjoyed what I heard. Goldfrapp is the acclaimed duo of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory.
Singer/composer/keyboardist Allison Goldfrapp began exploring music as a part of her studies as a Fine Art Painting major at Middlesex University, mixing sound, visuals, and performances in her installation pieces. While at University her vocals were featured in electro artitists like Tricky and Orbital. By the late 1990's Allison had begun to hone hear sound and passed along to composer William Gregory. Given their similiar tastes in music the two teamed up to form Goldfrapp.
Since their creation they have released 2 full length LPs Felt Mountain (2000) and Black Cherry (2003). Their album Supernature has already been relaesed in the UK but is still waiting a 2006 US release date. Their alternative pop electro sound is certainly a nice departure from my often times over focus on the hip hop, jazz and downtempo genres.
