Rayko, a Madrid-based producer who is a consistent favorite here at Analog Giant, casually dropped this simply outstanding edit of Steve Miller Band classic "Shangri-la" earlier today. It's just so...danceable! I mean, this is one helluva club track. We haven't checked in with Rayko lately, but the man is as prolific as he is talented, and he's got a load of jaw-dropping remixes and edits that he's shared on his Soundcloud page this year alone. I've slapped a couple of choice examples below.

The record is an an original work of instrumental hip-hop, electronic music, and dance music. For thos not in the know J. The release is pretty amazing. The vinyl release is a 3/LP set - album and mystery disc - with a triple gatefold, double sided poster, and sticker sheet. The CD is double disc (album and mystery disc) packaged in a custom-made 12-panel digipack. Album illustration by Gustavo Eandi, design by Jeff Jank. Photo of J Dilla & J. Rocc by Egon, circa 2005. Young swiss DJ and Producer Ghostape according to his Facebook "creates sounds, that subsist on a strange struggle between cheap instrumentals and subtle, nay surreal vocal-arrangements. Not really something that makes you dance 2 days at a stretch, but definitive something that’s particular." His latest release "C'mon" showcases this vary claim. Really nice track. Looking forward to more from this upcoming artist.

Live music from The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble. The video show cases the Ensemble playing a series of techno-type songs using live instruments. Some of it probably borders on jazz, especially the track at 2:36. They recently recorded a live set for Gilles Peterson. Check that out here. While all their tour dates are up they are set to play on their largest stage yet. On April 16th they will be playing at A the 2011 Coachella festival.

Please give a warm welcome to Melenie, the newest member of the Analog Giant team! We're excited to have Melenie contributing to the site--she's always on top of anything and everything that happens in the Seattle music scene, and she's got a downright scary knowledge of old school disco and boogie. If you've been following the site the last few days, you've had a taste of that, but also a good feel for how much new music she listens to. Of course, with Melenie here, the scales have now been tipped and Seattle outnumbers Chicago 2-to-1 here at AG.

Welcome, Melenie--we're happy to have you on board.

Cassara - The World is Yours (Nightriders Remix) by Nightriders">Nightriders are back in action with a brand new remix, this time taking a swing at Cassara's The World is Yours. Pictured above, Cassara is "auf Deutschland", as they say, and I really like the vibe of the original track. That said, this remix is classic Nightriders quality--great work all around. That driving beat and vocal combination is something I could bliss out to all night.

Dimitri from Paris just posted this fresh edit of Donna Summer's anthem 'Spring Affair', originally released in 1976 on her Four Seasons of Love album. This edit was posted to celebrate the arrival of, yep, "spring", and after just waking up here in Seattle to sunlight streaming through the window, that seems like a damn good reason to me.

Australia has been killin the disco-house game lately! From Cassian, to Cadillac, to Miami Horror, and now Francis Inferno Orchestra. What makes him (real name, Griffin James) stand out from the rest is that he adds more of a deep-house groove to his productions, especially heard in his debut on the international Sleazy Beats Recordings,"The Night He Came Home" EP. I read in an interview, that he listened to a lot of 9th Wonder, and I can definitely hear the influence, with the sampling of disco/boogie/soul tracks in his tracks. Gives a sample nerd like me, a challenge in identifying the original! (It's The Jones Girl's "Knockin'" on "Rush Back" by the way..)

More music from the man of the golden hook. Is there anybody in hip hop with a better hook delivery than Nate Dogg? That question was rhetorical. Answer is no. "Regulate" was the first single I bought, on tape, and to just put it in perspective that was a 14 year old white kid from Washington State. Track was huge. Great remix of another Nate track from our dude DJ B.Cause. Check it out. RIP.

Gotta pay my respects tonight to the legendary Nate Dogg, who died today at 41. Way, way too young. The man helped define the sound of West coast hip hop and was one of the first to make a real name for himself appearing on collaborations in the 90s. I remember way back in the day, I'd just hang out all summer watching him appear in videos on Yo! MTV Raps...especially Regulators, which was undeniably one of the best. Nobody did a hook like Nate Dogg. Rest in peace.

For today's tribute, I thought I'd post up some remixes from Matthew Kyle, DJSE, and Simon Kemp.

I've been really impressed with the work of Victor Klyuchnikov, the man behind Cosmonaut Grechko, and hey, you know we love the Daft Punk remixes around here, so I'm contractually obligated to post this unusual marimba-style cut of Too Long from the very talented Cosmonaut Grechko. He's got some other, equally fantastic remixes in his utility belt, including a fantastic take on one of my favorite tracks of last year--Chilly Gonzalez's 'You Can Dance'. As for this Daft Punk remix, I don't know if I like it, love it, or am somewhat confused by it, but there's just something remarkable about it.

Oh, and downloads have been disabled for the Daft Punk remix on Soundcloud, but he was kind enough to offer a download link here!

All right, the week is young, so let's just start things nice and funky with two outstanding house/disco/freaky space boogie mixes; one from Brighton, England based Rob Fahey (AKA Alphabet City) and another from Edinburgh's Craig Smith. North versus south? No, no, none of that around here...it's still Monday. This fantastic mix from Alphabet City for Blacklodge was created to hype an upcoming club night in Brighton, a town that's always good for an epic night out. Craig Smith's mix was recorded for Pulse Radio's Disco Deviance show, and while the swanky tunes contained within could be described as disco, we're all better off just calling it what it is: damn funky.

A.Skillz consistently throws down some of my absolute favorite party breaks mixes--his last mix still gets a heavy workout on my iPhone--and so I'm excited to see that he dropped a fresh 30 minute mix today. He describes this mix as a collection of tracks he's been playing in his live sets lately, along with tracks he intends to play at future gigs. His Funkyness is currently touring Canada, and this brilliant mix just makes it all the more brutal that he's not headed down here to Seattle. Oh yeah, don't forget to grab the free download!

Bit of an eclectic mix of tracks for your consumption this weekend. But eclectic is kind of what we do here. First is a great remix of Moonchild's new track "Love Birds" by a blog favorite Russ Chimes. Really great track to keep your mindset on the idea that it will eventually get warmer. Next is a bit of a throw in with a remix of France's rock darlings Phoenix's "Armistice" done by RAC. The selection concludes with a personal favorite of ours. The king of electro-funk and everything cool Mr. Dam-Funk with his track "Staying Fly." While we are still working on getting fly we certainly have no concerns over the fly-ness of Mr. Funk. Enjoy!

Seattle came out strong last Friday night to support Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's first of three so-very-sold-out shows at the the sizable Showbox Market. The demand for these tickets was unprecedented, and it caused a buzz around the city that only confirms what everyone knows--Macklemore is a hip hop star ready for launch.

For this night, he was preceded by some great performances from the Physics, Sol, and Grieves and Budo, setting the stage and getting the crowd plenty hyped. These are acts I'll definitely be following over the next year. Several times it was mentioned that this outpouring of support for Seattle hip hop was a major accomplishment for the Seattle scene and its fans.

From the moment Macklemore and his cohort Ryan Lewis took the stage, it was obvious the Seattle crowd was bursting with pride for their hometown hip hop phenom. It was the first time I had a chance to see Macklemore work his trade, and the man is a ferocious talent--his passion and emotion was jaw-dropping. Equally impressive was the music; Ryan Lewis is a stunning producer on every level, and the live Trumpet, Violin, and backup singers and dancers really took it to another level. But man, most moving of all was the crowd response. I don't know if it was the Redhook talking, but it felt like the whole city was gathering to rally for Macklemore to give him a strong push on his way to show the rest of the world what Seattle's all about.

You don't want to miss this show if it's rolling into your town. Word is getting out.
