The perfect storm of Analog Giant awesomeness is coming to Chicago. We have (2) tickets to Mayer Hawthorne and Chromeo for Friday September 30th at House of Blues. How do you get these tickets and the opportunity to hang with me and my wife and hear about our early 30's lifestyle and raising a baby? You don't have to be subjected to us and baby talk but we can get you some tickets.
To get the tickets post your favorite Mayer Hawthorne track and Chromeo track in the comments and we will pick the best combination. Don't forget an email where we can reach you. Contest closes this Friday (September 2nd) so hustle and get posting. Contest closes September 9th. Come on Chicago!
Here's the latest EP of badass boogie cut-ups from Wolverhampton's Letherette duo. Their chops are just as tight this time out, covering dusted Dilla-esque HipHop, cosmic soul, and one heavyweight Boogie-House job. A-side slydes through the elastic funk of 'Bruse', a gorgeous Dilla-style harp and sitar chop up on 'In And Out', and stuttering soul on 'Shoe Be Do'. Flip it and you'll be smacked with 'No Point', a killer Thomas Bangaltar-style disco-House cut-up treatment deserving of instant anthem status, sitting next to two Madlib-like HipHop joints.
French electro producer Sebastian is coming to the states for a few select shows. We have had our eye on him since he released Ross Ross Ross back in 2006. Its now five years later and his album Total came out in May and it has some good tracks on it. My favorite and album standout is the track "Love in Motion" featuring one of our favorites Mayer Hawthorne. Sebastian is playing The Congress Theater next week on September 3rd. Don't miss it. Should be a great party.
The Black Sands record by Bonobo is a really excellent record that I recommend that you check out when you get the chance. Duke Dumont does a wonderful job of adding a cinematic and almost haunting quality to Bonobo's track "Black Sands." Really cool atmospheric sound added to this one. He has not made embeding the player available so you need to head over to his Soundcloud spot to check it out.
Really nice new track from Damu. Great baseline and over all production on this track. Female vocals really make this track shine. Check it out. Breathless by Damu
It's been 10 years, since the passing of Aaliyah. In remembrance, here are some recent edits/remixes of her hit songs, done by up and coming producers, Hudson Mohawke, Brenmar, Soul Clap, ITFW...
A warm and uplifting track from Jamie xx. You probably know Jamie better as member of the band The xx. His remix skills were recently displayed on the Gil Scott-Heron remix album named We're New Here. Great track, great vibes. I don't know what season it was produced in but it sounds like summer to me.
Floetry's sexy 2002 hit, gets an update by two producers: Eats Everything and Kingdom. Both definitely got UK funky and added that bass in there! Which one do you like better?
Krystal Klear is in Seattle tonight! In preparation for the show tonight, check out this remix he did for Blood Orange (aka Dev Hynes - who has worked with Basement Jaxx, Florence & The Machine, Theophilus London, Solange Knowles, to name a few). "Champagne Coast" boasts Prince-like vocals over an 80s grooove.
Thanks to that Body Language mix, I found this edit of our "All Night", by Analog Giant favorite, Oliver. This edit was done by Dublin Aunts from Australia (they do love them some disco-house down under!). There's a very recognizable Billy Ocean vocal sample filtered here.

Well I missed up talking ajavascript:void(0)bout Star Slinger's last offerings so let me try my best to get this one right. The first and favorite of the two if I had to pick a favorite is a mix of Toro Y Moi's chillwave beast "New Beat." Really nice work here by Star Slinger. Its an old mix according to Star Slinger however he just made it available on his Soundcloud. Toro Y Moi -New Beat (Star Slinger Dancehall Mix) by Star Slinger
The second is a poppy remix of Caged Animals' track "Teflon Heart." Another great showing by Star Slinger who has a stateside tour coming in October. Tour finishes up in the Midwest in November (Chicago November 4th at Lincoln Hall!). Tons of stops so don't miss him when he comes around.
"Sunlight" is by Kon, whom you might know from Kon & Amir. It samples Michael Jackson's "Rock With You", but is mixed with live instrumentation. What a perfect song to listen to this summer!
Here's the video for "Some Children" off of Holy Ghost!'s self titled album. Yes, that's Michael McDonald on the chorus, I had to do a double take on that one too ;)
We posted the video of the original of Hawthorne's "A Long Time" previously, and there was also the cover he did for Chromeo's "When The Night Falls". To build more hype around their collaborative efforts and their upcoming tour (Mayer Hawthorne will be opening up for them), Chromeo remixed "A Long Time" and made it extra funky.
Mayer Hawthorne - A Long Time (Chromeo Remix)
Another awesome track from the hip hop duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The new single titled "Can't Hold Us." Track features a hard-driving bass line, Macklemore's signature lyrical delivery, and on point production. Check out the duo in an upcoming fury of summer festivals including Outside Lands, Rock the Bells, Bumbershoot, and MusicFest NW. Macklemore X Ryan Lewis - Can't Hold Us Feat. Ray Dalton by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
I think "Wildfire" by SBTRKT ft. Yukimi Nagano (of Little Dragon) is a top candidate for Song of (the Summer) 2011. With this remix, done by Drumma Boy, he smoothes it out and features Seattle's (another "Best of 2011" candidate) Shabazz Palaces rapping over the beat.
The weekend is here. Its mellowing out here a bit in Chicago with some nice tempuratures. We were able to dig up some great tracks for you to check out. Hope you enjoy them. The first is from one of our favorite producers and remixers Penguin Prison. He puts a great touch on this track by Passion Pit.
Listen, I know this isn't necessarily a popular stance to take, but I've never been a fan of Neil Young. Maybe it's the voice, I don't know. But this cover of "Harvest Moon" Poolside uploaded today might just make me change my mind. Or maybe it'll just make me even more of a fan of Poolside.
There is an argument to be made that this dude puts together the best mixes around. Fake Blood aka Theo Keating is also known as Touché and one half of the duo The Wiseguys. Here is what he had to say about the mix...
I've done 4 x 1 hour mixes (and a 5th is in the pipeline), solely made up of old tunes sampled in classic Hip Hop tracks - but cut up on two copies / decks to re-create the loops / chops people used. I didn't use any compilations, reissues, bootlegs, or downloads. All originals. I've always been a digging fiend on the side! But - to save the original pressings (and also cos it's hard enough to get one copy of some of these, let alone two!) - I loaded them into Serato vinyl, so I could scratch away to my heart's content, with ruining anything! So here's VOL.1. Further volumes to follow...
Brand new collaboration from Seattle based Fourthcity artists, WD4D & Suttikeeree featuring Introcut. "Satisfaction" is the result of 3 deejay/producers wanting to make music for the dance floor. Nothing more, nothing less. Solid beats, bass, & synth work combined with a catchy vocal sample, make this a sure-shot pick for the club, house-party, or wherever the sun is shining, really!
A Long Time - Mayer Hawthorne from MayerHawthorne on Vimeo.
Mr. Hawthorne puts some vintage Detroit boogie to good use. It's like Soul Train but only better. Vampire inspired dude at 1:41 is classic. Is it possible for the lone white guy (1:46) to come across as any more dorky? Captain's salute? Really? Great track, greater video and outfits. Enjoy!
Another UK hip hop beat producer putting out some awesome tunes. First its Star Slinger and now its Handbook. Handbook's various social media locations are heavy on beats but low on information about this producer. I know he's from York and that is about all I can tell you. His latest additions to his SoundCloud are awesome. "Time" especially is ridiculously smooth. Check them out. Lovers. by Handbook It's Time by Handbook
This is a fun remix by French producer, Alan Braxe of French electronic duo, Teenage Bad Girl's "X Girl" featuring the colorful Rye Rye. I like the added male vocal (kinda sounds like Mayer Hawthorne a bit), and of course, Braxe's signature "French Touch".
