I'm kicking off this weekend's festivities with a serious heavy hitter from Breakbot; his new Shades of Black single is some gold-dusted disco magic. Next up is a tasty little slice of nu-disco Shazam--I don't know how we missed this earlier but don't make the same mistake. Finally, well...I don't even know where to start with this Planet Rock mashup from DJ Friction but it's completely bananas!

First heard this track on a U-Tern podcast last year. Really excellent track by Gypsy and The Cat (awesome name btw!). Starsmith does this great track justice with a remix he just posted. Check it out. For those that don't know Starsmith is an ace producer making great original stuff, remixes and producing for the likes of Robyn and others. Check out this track and enjoy. I am loving the sound of The C90s, an act out of London from the pair of Jamie Paterson and Danny Ashenden. Yeah, I know I'm a little late on these guys--I didn't stumble into Shine a Light, their latest single, until just recently. But consider me hooked to their electro sound.

On the remix: Flight Facilities, the mysterious and unbelievably talented Australian duo, mellow out the track and steer it right out into a South-Pacific sunset.

Boy 8-bit just recently made his fantastic remix of La Roux's "Quicksand" available on his SoundCloud. First off La Roux is amazing and there are a bunch of great remixes of their tracks out there (some even on this blog). Boy 8-bit aka David Morris has been joining forces with Mad Decent for quite some time and making some great music. No full lengths yet to my knowledge but some great singles and certainly great DJ sets (see his Halloween mix if you haven't, its masterful).

Check out the remix and an original track which I believe is being released on K7! Records.

Lyrics Born, real name Tsutomu "Tom" Shimura, is a Japanese American rapper and one half of the group Latyrx. His 1999 single "I Changed My Mind" remains one of my favorite hip hop tracks.

He will be coming to Chicago this Saturday (1/29) to present his lyrical gifts to the audience at Abbey Pub. His stop will be part of his tour in support of his 2010 release As You Were on Decon Records. The album features a ton of talent from Lateef the Truth Speaker, Francis and the Lights, Joyo Velarde, Sam Sparro and the Gift of Gab.

Check out a remix off the record and stop by the show if you are in the area.

For the few of you who don't know Oliver Jones aka Skream is a dubstep producer based in London. Despite his age he is one of dubstep’s first and most prominent producers.

He can take credit for perhaps the most popular dubstep track, "Midnight Request Line" which has been described as "an epic change of key and tempo and been credited as being a key factor in the evolution of a more melodic sound in the dubstep genre."

This track he just posted is awesome..aside from the annoying Soundcloud drops...

I'm in the mood for disco, both "nu" and old school, so here are three tracks to get this weekend rolling. First up is a simply superb remix from Boston's own Nightriders, followed by "Still Breathing", a track I'm really digging from Australian DJ/Producer Ben Houghton. Finally, Leftside Wobble crushes it again with this outstanding edit of Inner Life's "Ain't No Mountain". Have a great weekend!

Those impossibly funky Italians in Reset! released a new single this week called Prepare to Fight. It's got all that bouncy, bleepy, squelchy "Turbofunk" sound that made Reset! such a hot, up-and-coming act in 2010. The title track, Prepare to Fight, is the more serious dancefloor weapon between the two cuts included on the single--queue the smoke and lasers and arm waving!--yet it manages to hang on to that delightfully freaky and quirky Reset! sound. Sabrage, the track on the flipside, is nothing to pass over--and may just be my favorite of the two, banging out warbling bass blasts, wailing synth stabs, and a driving disco beat.

The new single is out now on Cheap Thrills--you can listen for yourself below or check it out on Beatport.

Reset! is also heading out on a tour of Australia and Asia. I'm hoping these guys make it to Seattle sometime in 2011, but if you live in one of these cities below you can see them live in the next few weeks.

Keep Shelly in Athens is a downtempo, chillwave group from...uhh...Athens naturally. The Grecian duo is signed to the blog owned/run Forest Family records started by Gorilla vs. Bear. They remind me of Air with the blend of female vocals and use of lounge tinged electronic melodies.

Check out their awesome remix of Brothertiger and their orginial track "Running Out of You."

Want a soundtrack for your Saturday? I'd go with this new DJ mix from Cassian, an Aussie that's been one of my favorite names in the remix scene lately. There's no doubting his skills--after his work on this Miami Horror Holidays remix, I'm expecting him to be a dominating force this year. This mix is fantastic, too--it's a funked-up collection of party-rocking disco and house tunes. Oh, and it's a free download.

Nobody is representing Seattle hip-hop right now quite like Macklemore and his co-conspirator Ryan Lewis. There's just something so fresh about the way Macklemore weaves a story, and this one told in his latest video, "My Oh My", is one that's pretty familiar to anyone growing up in Washington, cheering for Griffey and the Mariners. The city lost Dave Niehaus, the M's much-beloved announcer, last year and this song is a hell of a tribute.

This pair has really been picking up speed over the last few years (I thought their last effort was brilliant) and this is yet another great track.

On top of a new video, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are also embarking on a new tour--definitely check out the tour dates in your city! The upcoming show here in Seattle is going to be epic.

From Stones Throw:

"(James) Brown first discovered Tony Cook in 1973, playing at a block party for the WRDW-AM radio station he owned in his childhood hometown of Augusta, Georgia. Cook was still in high school at the time, but stayed in Brown’s sights til the early part of 1976, when Brown began to retool the J.B.s and brought Cook aboard as his new drummer. Cook would hold this position off and on for the next thirty years until Brown’s death on Christmas Day in 2006."

Drummer for The King of Soul is amazing in its own right. But ST is giving Mr. Cook a proper release of his tunes and they are pretty remarkable. This track here was recorded in the early 80s, with 2010 vocal by Dam-Funk. This is from Tony Cook's album Back to Reality out now on Stones Throw. Tony Cook - What's On Your Mind feat. It's the first real weekend of 2011 and we're already piled high with great new music. First up is a nice edit of 100% Pure Poison's Windy C from Italian producer Nicholas - such an incredible old school funk track. Star Slinger slangs out 'Like I Do', a deliciously blissed out concoction of beats. Wrapping up the set is an absolutely gorgeous track from Monsieur Adi, blending Ellie Goulding's 'Guns and Horses' with Daft Punk's 'Make Love'. So good.

So Merriam-Webster says "austerity" is the word of the year for 2010, but we think "extravagance" is the word of the year for the remix scene--2010 was a lush and fertile breeding ground for juicy, delicious remixes, edits, re-rubs, and everything in-between. Nope, folks, no austerity here!

I was expecting some heated discussions here at Analog Giant about who'd take the #1 remix of the year--but it turns out it was unanimous--I Crave Paris was the best remix of the year. Gorgeous synth lines, electro-lushous beats, and sweet, longing vocals combine seamlessly to make this an untouchable remix.

I think it'd be pretty hard to make a bad remix of a Robyn track--she's simply amazing--but these remixes from A-Trak and Fred Falke are both arguably even better than the originals. It was hard choosing between the two, but we ultimately went with A-Trak's dancey take on Indestructible for our #2 remix of the year.

Fare Soldi was unstoppable this year, serving up a continuous stream of brilliant remixes. They definitely had more popular remixes this year than their take on Duran Duran's classic "Rio", but I think this is absolutely their finest. It's a track that I've come back to again and again.

That covers our top three, but I have to give some special mentions to some of the producers and DJs that made this year so hot for remixes. Go Go Bizkitt! banged out what seems like an impossible number of jaw-dropping remixes--he will a major force in 2011. A few artists were so prolific and brilliant this year, it was hard to boil down their 2010 creativity into just one track. We also saw some mighty remixes from Analog Giant favorites like Ghosts of Venice, Bit Funk, Alan Braxe, Rayko, and Seattle's own 10.4 Rog.

Don't miss any of these remixes!

Happy New Year to everybody. Time for every blogger's period of self indulgence of posting our favorite tracks with our favorite remixes to follow. As representative of this blog we are all over the place in terms of musical genres. A bit of hip hop, some electronic, pop, house and rock. Let us know what you think.

If you post your top 3 tracks on our Facebook and we will pick one lucky person to receive a bunch of random records and cds we have laying around amongst the baby toys.

Tensnake was in heavy rotation in 2010. It was hard to pick just one track as everything he does is awesome. "Get Right" stands out amongst some amazing electronica/disco this year. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED) aside from having the most amazing name in music hit it big with "Garden" which is one of the most beautiful and moving tracks of the year. Easy to listen to over and over again.

I was about to make Aloe Blacc's track "I Need A Dollar" not the best track of the year but was promptly told by my co-contributor, his wife and my wife that I would be a damn fool if I chose anything but this classic. I came to my senses and made Mr. Blacc's hit the best track of the year and I feel good about that.

Aeroplane's record was one of my favorite of the year and "We Can't Fly" is my favorite track off that record. Roots and Kanye West keep hip-hop fresh with two epic releases. "How I Got Over" gets my vote for video of the year and "Power" takes the take for hip-hop anthem of the year. Let me know what you think about the rest.
