No chance I am even going to discuss Kanye West's latest remix. Even though I love Raekwon, the artist of the said remix embodies so many things wrong with music that I won't even mention him. Mr. West did however post a "new" track from Jay-Z featuring Chris Martin and produced by DJ Green Lantern. Track has an interesting backstory.
It was originally featured on Green Lantern’s new Invasion Radio 2k10 Mixtape. The vocals for this were originally recorded for Jay's Kingdom Come, but never made it because they could not find a beat. Pieces of the verses ended up on the Grammy Family Freestyle on Hot97 w/Funk Flex in 2006 as well as Coldplay’s "Lost" Remix. Here is what DJ Green Lantern had to say:
“This is my version working with the acapella…I’ve had this since 2006 and it was supposed to be on the Presidential Invasion mixtape–that never came out. Then Hov rapped these lyrics over his HP commercial drums, and the acapella went to a few different producers in search of a beat for it. I heard a Timbaland version and I think Just Blaze and a few others had it too. But by the time they made Beach Chair, I think Jay was over trying to find a beat for "Most Kingz." Then he went to Flex show and the rest is history…”
New track off the upcoming Savage Skulls and Douster EP Get Rich or High Trying. The record is out tomorrow on Beatport and features their signature tropical house sound mixing pop with a more underground type sound. The tracks are matched with great vocals. In this case the lovely Robyn leads her talents to the track. Check it out.
Really awesome track by El Guincho aka Pablo Díaz-Reixa. Wish I would have kept my Spanish up. Feels like I don't remember anything from my four years of Spanish in high school. This track is the first single of his Pop Negro album due out on Young Turks on September 14th. Check it out. EL GUINCHO / FM Tan Sexy by Young Turks

Been sitting on this for awhile but whenever it comes down to it and I need to work on some school papers I always tend to throw on some A.M. Architect. A.M. Architect is a project from Diego Chavez (Aether) and Daniel Stanush.
Adaptation is a five song EP of collected tracks, all of which were written and recorded before A.M. Architect's debut Album, The Road to the Sun. Some of these tracks have been previously available on label compilations and as free downloads, but never as a collection. You can stream or download the entire record below.
Check out these two from the big state. They make some great music.
All right, here's one for your weekend--Ridney posted up a fresh "Future French House" mixtape. Crank it up, but don't blame me if your neighbors catch you dancing while you're manning the grill. Oh, and check out his work with friend James Talk on "West End Girls" which is featured in the mix. Ace stuff!
Chicago's finest continues keeping to his word releasing free track after free track all in 320 quality and so far all solid. The latest is "Monster" featuring an eclectic group of people (Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Bon Iver?). Track is set to be featured on Kanye's joint album Watch the Throne with Jay-Z.
We know I am a big fan we will need to get E to post something at some point and give the counterpoint to all this new Kanye stuff. Not sure if he still needs some convincing.
This is Part 1 of a 3 part series. The video/movie shows a couple’s fate through a suspenseful montage of kidnapping and lust as the protagonist works to rebuild the happenings and whereabouts of his girlfriend. Russ Chimes’ songs “Never look back,” “Tertre Rouge” and “Targa” are featured. Each song is a separate music video, but when combined form the trilogy’s narrative. Looking forward to the upcoming record.
Ilya Santana of Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain just posted three tracks from his upcoming Erin EP. His earlier 2010 album Burning Jupiter is pretty awesome. You can see how Santana fits perfectly with his fellow Eskimo labelmates with a great knack for producing great cosmic disco. The EP is dedicated to his recently born first child. Nice work and congratulations. Ilya Santana "Erin" by Ilya Santana
Track has been circulating for a minute now but has finally gotten an official release. "Nightcall" is Kavinsky's standout single produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and featuring vocals from CSS’ Lovefoxxx. Track is certainly one of the best singles of this year in my opinion. But I'm just a skinny kid from the Chicago suburbs. Check it out for yourself.
Download link: Get three remixes of the track here. Two of the remixes are the winners of the Kavinsky and Record Makers organized a remix contest which ended with 533 entries.
A really promising act coming out of Australia. Miami Horror's psychedelic indie-electronic sound is getting a proper full release after a collection of great EPs. Their debut, Illumination, came out this week and comes along with some great videos. I have been listening to their Bravado EP for sometime and am excited about this record. The group will also be bringing their live show to the states throughout September so be sure to check that out.
Once on the road they plan to stream parts of the tour, including some live sets. Sounds cool. Check out the videos and pick up the new record here.
New Lupe Fiasco track which I can only assume will be featured on his upcoming record Lasers. I stand corrected guess this track is on another upcoming record Food and Liquor Volume II. Not sure how that makes sense but whatever...Back to the topic of Lasers which doesn't have an official release date but tracks have been leaking out here and there on the internet. This track is the best so far.
For those that don't know Lupe Fiasco will be playing with Mayer Hawthorne, Damian Marley, Nas, Flying Lotus and Holy Ghost! on September 5th at Union Park in Chicago. Don't miss it. 3-day passes to North Coast just sold out. I am sure tickets for Sunday will sell out soon given the lineup. Get some and meet me there!
OK, hypothetical question. Let's say you've throwing a party at your private villa on the French Riviera along with 100 of your closest friends, starlets, and fashion icons. Who will man the decks? Easy--I know I'd pick up the red phone and dial up disco legend Dimitri from Paris. You know he'd come packing the suavest edits and remixes, like these beauties below. What can I say? He's got the velvet touch--Aretha never sounded so smooth.
Them Jeans aka Jason Stewart, possibly the tallest DJ/producer on the planet at 6 ft. 8 inches tall makes some superb remixes.
Stewart is the force behind the famous club night, Dim Mak Tuesdays at Cinespace which has featured the likes of Justice and Kid Cudi. He has also been featured in publications such as URB, Vapors, and XLR8R along with touring throughout North America and Europe. He has some standout remixes of the XX, the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, and Major Lazer among others.
He also has some original stuff that is featured on his Soundcloud page. In the mean time check out a couple of his remixes of Beach House and Flying Lotus.
The Count & Sinden just dropped their new album, Mega Mega Mega, it manages to cover just about every corner of the scene. Known for their DJ sets and remixes these two have been fine tuning this record for over a year. The album jumps from the dancehall vibes of "Roll Out" to the Roxanne Shanté-style rhyming of Rye Rye on "Hardcore Girls" to the delicious disco-party blissout of "After Dark" with the Mystery Jets. To early to say if its going to be "Mega" but it definitely is going to be an album to talk about this year, so go on--check it out below. Kanye West just released the official remix of "Power" featuring Jay-Z and the newly married Swizz Beatz. Liking this remix. Check it out if you haven't yet. "Fresh for the club I just took a half an hour nap." Was even able to fit in a little Snap sample. Go Chicago.
Annie Mac’s taste for cutting-edge music is not debatable. Annie Mac Presents 2010 is a collection of the biggest jams she’s been playing on Radio 1 this year. The album is out September 27, 2010.
She throws down the heavy dance and club shaking stuff at the forefront with the first disc of this two disc comp. The 2nd disc allows you to lower your heartbeat a bit with some really great mellow softer textures (Breakbot, TEED). Awesome collection of music. Here are a couple tracks that will show up on the comp.
Aloe Blacc drops a heavy track on Seattle's Kube 93.3 called "Politicians." Take note. Loving what Blacc is doing with this soul thing. Been a serious roll.
"Ain’t My Fault" is available now via iTunes as a single (99 cents) or video ($1.99) with all proceeds being distributed by the Gulf Relief Foundation (GulfAid.org) to support organizations focused on wetlands/coastal environmental issues and the regional seafood industry. Go get it.
La Roux is an English electropop and synthpop duo composed of singer Eleanor Kate Jackson and keyboardist Ben Langmaid. I have heard La Roux here and there but never had a chance to write anything up until I heard this remix by Mad Decent and disco master DaTA.
La Roux self titled debut came out last year and has since gone platinum. Check out these two awesome remixes of the track "I'm Not Your Toy." La Roux just released The Gold EP in May.
I first saw Starf*cker back in April, 2008 here in Seattle when they opened for Yelle (who was brilliant, by the way) at the now-defunct War Room, and I hadn't heard a thing about them except that they were from Portland. When they set up just a synth and two live drummers, I raised an eyebrow, but as soon as they started playing it was obvious Starf*cker had some serious raw talent. After the show, the singer walked around the crowd selling their EP in DIY cardboard sleeve with a stamp on it, and I bought it on the spot. It spent the next three weeks on solid repeat in my stereo. A few months later, I was flipping through channels and heard my favorite Starf*cker song in a Target commercial. And you know what? All I thought was "Hell yeah. They deserve it!"
Don't miss their tracks--they're getting hotter by the day. Also check out the cover of Cyndi Lauper. Starf*cker recorded a limited edition pink 7" single and two short-run vinyl LP's on the Badman label. Each piece of vinyl included tracks that were not released digitally. These are now making these five "b-sides" available as a digital only EP entitled B-Sides. Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second by starfucker_usa Girls Just Want To Have Fun by starfucker_usa
New track from Ernest Green aka Washed Out. Dude comes across as a real down to earth. If you haven't his Life of Leisure EP is phenomenal. I totally missed the boat on his release of "You and I" a track from the Adult Swim singles project. Check it out. It is as to be expected from Mr. Greene...awesome.
The Mad Decent Block Party tour is set to have a perfect send off this weekend in Chicago. Pretty great lineup that has been put together featuring a bunch of native Chicagoans. This is the finale so make sure you get out there and support them.
The party is free and all ages thanks to some generous sponsors. Willy Joy will be rocking a Diesel pre-party on Friday night, complimentary drinks and a chance to grab your “Diesel Dollars” to spend at the block party on everything from new vinyl to airhorns.

Another day, another awesome Daft Punk remix. This one by Germany's Justin Faust. This dude has a great touch for remixes. He tweeks them but not so much that they lose their original appeal. Really great stuff here. His Daft Punk mix stands out but the below remix of Goldhawks is no half assed effort either. His electro/house with his own brand of German flavorings is not to be missed.
Fantastic piece of motion picture from El-P. Fellow blogger and friend Jeff Weiss who is certainly a more gifted writer than I has a nice dialog about the video that you should check out here.
Just how does one man in the UK produce such a prodigious quantity of utterly brilliant French House remixes? I suspect disco-enhancing drugs may be in involved, or maybe he's in posession of a Game Genie once owned by Thomas Bangalter. Either way, he's obviously cheating, and an inquiry must be launched. At this rate, he'll be the hotness of the year. See the evidence for yourself here. Tom Nelson, we're watching you. Silver Convention - Get up & Boogie(Go Go Bizkitt's Shimple Edit) by Go Go Bizkitt!
If you're in the mood for quality cuts of disco house, you'll definitely want to check out Laberge, a Vancouver-based producer I've been listening to a lot lately. Be sure to check out his This Feeling EP that came out last October on Solid Bump records. Check out one of the best Daft Punk remixes I have ever heard.
Another great track from France's Anoraak. He is part of the French collective Valerie that continues to crack out fantastic tracks. Check out the new track along with a remix of him and Russ Chimes.
For the 2 people that haven't heard Kanye West's newly leaked track "See Me Now." Not bad. Like "Power" better, still looking forward to the record. Track thanks his official blog.
Ellie Goulding is a British singer-songwriter she released her debut single "Under The Sheets" in November 2009. The track was produced by Starsmith, who she has been working with since the beginning of her career. Her debut album, Lights was released in March.
The crowd demanded "CHROMEEEOOO--OHHH-OH", and oh, did they deliver. Chromeo blasted the crowd with funky electrosynth jams polished to mirrored perfection. I knew these guys would be good, but they absolutely blew my mind--definitely one of the better live shows I've seen in the last few years. Bathed in pink and pastel light, Dave 1 and P-Thugg threw down a flawless stage performance, slinging Fancy Footwork album crowdpleasers like "Bonafide Lovin"(wailing 80s guitar licks, oh yes) and "Tenderoni" (the crowd created a minor earthquake from jumping up and down). They also weaved in hot new tracks from their forthcoming album, Business Casual (due in September).
All this, after great sets from Telephoned and Holy Ghost!. If you have a chance to catch these guys live on this tour, seriously...don't miss it!
