Bay Area DJ/Producer Amplive (1/2 of Zion I) just dropped a new remix of Radiohead's track "Nude." "Nude" appears on Radiohead's In Rainbows which is set to drop in holdable format on December 31st.
Amplive's remix was sought out by Radiohead themselves and is set to be on Rainydayz Remixes a six-song collection of reworked tracks by Amplive himself. Check out the remix and enjoy your weekend.

Ocelot is a Texas/UK duo (?hows that work?) that specializes in dance, house and electro music. Jimmy Welsh and Cory Kilduff make up this tandem. They are signed to the iheartcomix label who happen to have a blog (check it out here). They are working on a new website site which isn't done yet, but in the mean time check out their myspace page for some killer remixes.
Wish I had some mp3s to share...go check the streams if you like house. You can get some mp3s over at the offical blog. Check out this one:

Here is a great track from BNP entitled "Yow milédal." (on top of Luniz's "I Got Five on it" beat). BNP is a hip hop act from Dakar, Senegal. Check out the note that my dude Ghislain wrote about the track:
I was in Burkina Faso in 1998. On my way back to Montreal in January 1999, I had a 12 hours transit via Dakar to take the plane Dakar-NYC. Yes, at that time there was a direct flight Dakar-NYC with Air Afrique.
During my 12 hours transit, all Senegal was celebrating because the Ramadan just finished and it was the first real big meal ! I had the chance to go downtown Dakar and driving a car for the first time in Africa (nice experience) to chase some African Hip-Hop cassettes that I wasn’t able to find in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). On the many cassettes that I bought that day there was Senerap Freestyle 1 (1997) and Senerap Freestyle 2 (1998).
Still today, I love these cassettes and I finally did a cassette rescue and digitalized them. BNP "Yow milédal" is taken from Senerap Freestyle 1.
peace,
ghislain

Thanks for the link Mr. Poirier.
Edit: Sorry I was confusing Darfur and Dakar. Sorry about the confusion. Dakar is very much different than Darfur. Thanks to Ghis and reader "H" for the heads up.
A lock for best duo name that I have read in awhile. These East London'ers drop their latest album, Lend Me Your Ears a real classic sounding hip hop record. There is a positive vibe, solid production, pleas to get back to to what matters (giving thanks, love, rejection of materialism, hypocrisies in government). Check out a track:
Mp3: Nemisis and Arrogance feat. Skinnyman - "Change of Heart"
Check out their myspace. "No Peace" and "Runaway" are great tracks as well. Get their record here.
New single off Dizzie's critically aclaimed UK hip hop record, Maths and English. The record was one of the 12 nominees for the 2007 Mercury Prize (best record in UK and Ireland). The first single off the record was "Sirens" which was released on May 21. The latest single is for the track "Flex" and its got some great remixes on it.

A 24 hour moratorium on consumer spending - participate by not participating. I have been celebrating Buy Nothing Day for about 12 years and its come around again. Buy Nothing Day falls on November 23rd in North America and November 24th internationally. Avoid people putting each other in headlocks over a 30 dollar DVD player at Crap-Mart.
I'll be laying low you should to.
2/3rds of the Rub is set to drop, hopefully their dancehall set, this Friday at the Darkroom in Chicago. If you haven't gotten the Rub Up!, the dancehall mixtape you desperately need to.
Cold Grums and Rawk! magazine are giving people plenty of reasons to get out of the house after jamming their faces with dead bird. Hosted by local emcee Vyle theirs a full lineup of the Rub (DJ Ayres and DJ Eleven of Brooklyn), Intel and DeeJay Pickel spinning a four-turntable set and Chicago's own Willy Joy will be there as well.
I'll be there so as always keep your eyes peeled for a tall, goofy looking white kid. Check out the details:
Where: Darkroom (2210 W. Chicago, 773/276-1411)

If you didn't get the privledge to see these dudes live you need this in your life. I got the chance to see them in Chicago and Las Vegas. Unbelievable. Get the disc and relive their set recorded at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, an 18,000-capacity sports arena in Paris, on June 14th, 2007. The double disc, Alive 2007 is out digitally NOW or wait for the physical version out December 4th.
As you all know I am a big fan of Ghislain Poirier productions and the German duo that Modeselektor is a favorite as well. Good news for me (and perhaps for you?) is that Modeselektor has this great remix of Poirier's track "Blazin'" (original featured awhile back).
While you might have been thinking I was going all soft rock on you with the psych pop here is plenty of bass and darkness to get me back in your good graces. Check it out.
Little change of pace here. The Whitsundays are a group of Canadian kids that specialize in playing a type of psych-pop reminiscent of the Zombies or The Stranglers. Nice throw back sound with all sorts of reverb. Check out a single off the upcoming record.

Just got this sent from fellow Midwestern Theory Hazit. The Cincy emcee's new record is Extra Credit and from what I have heard its great. Nice production and a good delivery it reminds me a bit of old Hiero. Check out a track.

Since we are on the dubstep topic here is a great pairing. The Bloc Party and Burial. Its off the "Flux" 12 inch that came out last Monday.

As you know I am no dubstep expert but I am continuing to try and learn more about the genre. Alot of critics put up Burial's self entitled first album which was a collection of home recorded tunes (check out "Pirates" on that record). Burial is the handle of an anonymous dubstep musician from London. In a article in the Guardian Burial claims that "only five people know I make tunes." After the success of his debut however this is becoming more and more difficult.
His latest is Untrue and its much more than just a dubstep record. He does a masterful job of incorporating dubstep with elements of UK garage (or electronic dance music) and a bunch of soul. Burial certainly sticks close to his dubstep roots with dark moods, sparse rhythms, and emphasis on bass but its his ability to blend in much more subtle sounds that makes this a unique record. Like Skream's "Midnight Request Line" before it, Burial does a wonderful job of adding a twist to the typical dubstep sound.
Check out a track off the record. "Ghost hardware" is probably my favorite song after the first couple spins but this one is great too.
Mp3: Burial - "Archangel"
Pick up Untrue here OR read more about Burial by somebody that actually knows how to write here (interview here as well).

Not sure if you have checked out this out but RCRD LBL is the latest in an attempt by labels to rain in illegal music sharing. Pretty impressive list of label as well from Warp, Modular, Ghostly International and others.
Hell great track up to kick it all off. A remix by Benny Blanco of Justice's "DANCE" featuring Mos Def and Spank Rock. Check it out.

100 Days, 100 Nights which came out last month is a hell of a soul record. Their also featured on the Scion CD Sampler – Volume 19, Daptone Records Remixed a double disc special edition of club-ready remixes from the depths of Brooklyn based Daptone Records. Check out one by Kenny Dope.
Mp3: Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - "Keep on Looking" (Kenny Dope Remix)

New record set to drop on Stones Throw. Badd Santa is a record being sold at a couple retail outlets. Stones Throw has featured some PBW Xmas mixes in the past but this is the first officially licensed holiday album, combining obscure vinyl archaeology of the weird, the strange and of course the funky. If this promo video is any indication its going to be with old fashion Happy Holidays style for Chrismtmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah or whatever you get down to.
Get the entire low down here ---> http://www.stonesthrow.com/baddsanta
New stuff from the cartoons. Officially out November 20th, D-Sides is a compliation of early demos and previously unreleased tracks. Single's tracks and rarities like "Bill Murray", "We Are Happy Landfill" and "Stop The Dams" all show up on this double disc, along with remixes by Soulwax, DFA, Hot Chip and Junior Senior.
The video is for another track on the record. "Rockit" isn't probably the best thing to feature in my opinion as their dub track "Bill Murray" which was one the Feel Good Inc. 12 inch is just an awesome cut. Looking forward to this one regardless. Always good to see some new Gorillaz animation.
The funkiest, most soulful album of the year has got to be the latest from Staten Island's own Budos Band. Budos is eleven pieces in all, consisting of drums, bass, guitar, electric organ, two trumpets, baritone saxophone, and a percussion section employing bongos, congas, tambourine, guiro, clave, shekere and yes even cowbell.
The Budos Band's second release, The Budos Band II creeped in under the radar back in September but be sure you check it out if you missed it. Great soul record.

The first official Bob Marley remix album, Roots, Rock, Remixed features a host of ace selectors from Fort Knox Five, DJ Spooky, Jimpster, Yes King (Mark Rae & Rhys Adams), Trio Elétrico (Boozoo Bajou). While Bob suffers from over exposure from many too fearful to delve farther into reggae this remix album has some good stuff that doesn't butcher the source material. Check out a track:
Mp3: Bob Marley & The Wailers - "Soul Shakedown Party" (Afrodisiac Sound System Remix)
Nice take on one of the most recognizable reggae tracks of all time. "Duppy Conqueror" might be my favorite off the record. Nice fresh take on these cuts.
After releasing one of the better hip hop albums of the year fresh producer Marco Polo has a new EP out entitled The Radar. The track features the always dangerous Large Professor (check out his myspace for a sample of the track with lyrics). Great production which is expected from Marco and some great scatching. Check out a track from the 12:

Go get the EP here. Marco is also a fellow blogger and you should check out his blog here.
One of my favorite records of the year is Heliocentrics's Out There. We talked about it awhile back but Fader (check out the great re-design) just put up one of many great great tracks by the crew. This one is a 70s pyschidellic type grove called "Ode to Hendrix." Check it out:
Mp3 link: Audio: Heliocentrics "Ode To Hendrix"
Nice to see this record get more exposure. Like I said I think its one of the years best.
Grammy-winning producer Ace Levinson and Ropeadope founder Andy Hurwitz have gotten together to create a tribute to the cultural mecca that is Harlem, NYC. This is the third installment of the experiement series released by Ropeadope. The first two cities featured where Philly (home of the label) and Detroit.
The cultural depth of Harlem seeps out of this record with a mixture of jazz, funk, hip hop and soul. The 15 track deep record features like Taj Mahal, James Hunter, Olu Dara, Queen Esther, Don Byron and the Harlem House Band. The "House Band" has played with some of the greats from David Bowie to Run DMC. Check out a track of the new record:
