The second of a two part extra-limited volume of Favela (Rio Baille Funk) mixtape CD's from Diplodocus.

'Favela Strikes Back' was mixed down after Diplo Hollertronix's return from Brazil the origin favela music. Favela is funk, miami bass, electro, hip-hop, and pop blended together. Better put by Nick Sylvester at Pitchfork, "Baile funk aka favela funk aka funk has been doing the crazy Portuguese screaming over Miami bass and U.S. pop kitsch thing for decades now-- we're just finding out about it." Volume one dates from 2004, while Volume 2 'Favela Strikes Back' dates from early 2005.

Mp3: Diplo - "Track 5"
Mp3: Diplo - "Track 6"
Mp3: Diplo - "Track 10"

Track 5 has some kind of crazy Lone Ranger sample with a twist of Grease definitely not for the casual listener here but I am loving this stuff. Track 6 has some James Brown beat if my ears are up to snuff. Track 10? Yeah that is some Sweet Dreams sampling on there for sure, mixed with some type of Beethoven classic stuff topped off with some MC Hammer at the end? Is that can't touch this?

Buy at Boomkat. It's a 60 minute mix, pro cdr in slimcase packaging with wild photo's from the Baile Funk parties. Essential Hollertronix business.

Bonus:
Mp3: Diplo Live at Halcyon

Later I will post about Diplo's mixtape for M.I.A. Piracy Funds Terrorism Vol. 1.
